Flu of PIg & Luke Yocum Take Flight

Flu of PIg & Luke Yocum Take Flight
Written By: Carmin Estella Updated: October 11th, 2017

Flu of Pig, 55’ x 96’, oil on canvas was created in NYC in 2009 by prodigy Luke D. Yocum. The painting was featured in a political “sit-in” then acquired by Grey Gallery reportedly for asking price. The painting subsequently sold to Converge Gallery who sold FLU to a private collector in California. FLU then found itself up for an auction benefiting charity at First Presbyterian Church. The auction included such famous faces as Steven Spielberg and FLU notably received bids from the likes of Ben Affleck, Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Mission Impossible 3) and Spider-Man Director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer). The gavel finally fell after heated bidding and was sold to a Dotcom entrepreneur.

After Yocum’s passing in 2016, his art has become a favorite amongst collectors for his vivid colors and themes of social ailment. Recently “Artist in Recovery” sold to an unidentified bidder nearly triple asking price garnering speculation that Yocum’s work is ripe for serious collectors.

Yocum’s works adorn galleries around the world and his work has gained considerable value in the gallery circuit including Steve Adams Gallery whom we here at Elite are big fans of.

MTN denies casualisation of workers

Telecommunications firm, MTN has denied claims that its workers are casualised. This is coming after the picketing of its offices nationwide earlier this week by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over claims of casualisation of workers.

MTN, while denying the allegation, disclosed that its employees have full-time employment contracts. The firm, in a statement signed by its Corporate Relations Executive, Tobechukwu Okigbo yesterday, said it considers the rights of all its employees to be paramount and have consistently ensured that those rights are protected.

This right, according to MTN, includes the fundamental human right to freedom of association as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution and were not forcing employees to do anything against their will. MTN said it provides working conditions in line with international best practices, stressing that all employees earn above minimum wage.

According to the firm, over the years, it has engaged productively with representatives of Labour Unions, who reached out, holding numerous extensive meetings, saying it would continue to do so, pursuing amicable resolutions in its negotiations with organised labour.

MTN noted that the safety and welfare of its employees would remain a primary concern during these discussions while assuring customers of improved connectivity.

ALTON expresses worry over picketing of MTN offices by NLC

Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has expressed concerns over the picketing of the offices and disruption of operations of MTN Nigeria one of its members.

Officials of the Nigerian Labour Congress and persons allegedly in the employment of the company yesterday marched on MTN offices in different locations in the country to protest against the poor welfare of its Nigerian staff.
The company was also alleged to have prevented its workers from joining trade unions. In a statement made available to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, ALTON noted that its members are law-abiding organizations who are committed to best practices in all areas including labour related matters.
“As responsible corporate citizens, our members have always provided platforms for their employees to associate freely in accordance with the law and the constitution. Employees of our members are able to join or form associations and unions if they so desire.
“However, the practice is that membership of any associations and unions are voluntary. In line with fundamental human rights regarding freedom of association as guaranteed by the constitution, individuals must not be compelled to join an association or union if they do not choose to do so.
“Picketing of such nature as reported, leading to injury to persons and damage to properties, creates an unfortunate situation where employees are coerced to join unions and associations without respect for their individual rights of voluntary association.
“Damage to any Telecom Facilities will lead to the disruption of critical national security and economic services which will expose innocent citizens to great danger.“Attempts have been made to disrupt the network operations of some of our members through the shut down and vandalisation of critical network facilities.
“The implication of such disruption will lead to severe poor quality of services with attendant national security implications and far reaching implications on other services that are dependent on the telecommunications industry,” the statement added.
ALTON however urged government and its law enforcement agencies to intervene expeditiously. “Otherwise, we will advise our members to consider preventive shut down in order to avoid further damage to network facilities. We trust parties will respect each other’s constitutional rights in the interest of our nation Nigeria,” ALTON said.

YouTube may offer cash to stars that promote its new features

INTERNATIONAL - YouTube wants to prove to its biggest stars that the popular video service is more than just an advertising business.
The Google-owned company is paying talent upfront sums to use and promote new features, including paid memberships and an enhanced chat, according to people familiar with the deals.

Read this:How-to-borrow-data-on-all-networks-in.html

The amounts range from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars, said the people, who asked not to be identified as they are discussing terms that aren’t public.

YouTube introduced paid memberships, paid chats and a new merchandising programme earlier this year to placate top talent and keep up with major competitors.
Also See This:Researchers-list-economic-uses-of.

Many people with large followings on the video site have complained that it doesn’t offer ways to make money beyond advertising and that YouTube’s efforts to shield advertisers from controversial content has hurt their sales.
Competitors have seized on that dissatisfaction.
Facebook Inc. and its Instagram service have approached YouTube stars touting their new video features, while Inc’s Twitch and Patreon offer the chance to reduce reliance on advertising by selling subscriptions to fans who want early access to programming or the ability to use certain symbols in chats.
“If YouTube’s not scared of Twitch yet they should be now,” Casey Neistat, a popular filmmaker, and video blogger said in an interview with the Verge in May.
Merchandise Sales
YouTube has responded by making it easier for creators to sell merchandise and by expanding the number of users who can sell a monthly subscription.
The new Super Chat lets fans of a given YouTube star pay to highlight their messages in live streams. Such features offer higher profit margins to YouTube and its parent company Alphabet Inc, which been looking to make money from sources beyond advertising.
“It’s something creators have been asking for, and we’ve built the products hand-in-hand with them,” Neal Mohan, YouTube’s chief product officer, said in an interview at the time.
“We have no new initiative in place,” the company said separately. “We have always invested in our creators’ success and will continue to do so to ensure they have a great experience and can find continued growth and opportunity on YouTube.”
YouTube has in the past offered talent direct payments whenever it felt pressured by new competition, such as Vessel, a short-lived video service that tried to strike exclusive deals with top YouTube talent. In 2014, YouTube paid bonuses to creators who agreed to provide their videos exclusively.
These new YouTube contracts don’t require people to post only on YouTube, but they do prohibit them from posting first on competitors’ sites.

Some Basic Smarter And Affordable Smartphone

With the present standard of living in the Nation, Nigeria, there are still some basic smartphone that you can afford.
We bring to you five smarter phones that you can not resist
One of the differences between an average tech savvy, upwardly mobile individual in this age and the regular person who is not any of these is the type of mobile phone they use and what they can accomplish with it. But even beyond the functional benefits and value of a smart mobile phone, people like to own good, fancy (even) mobile phones as a social status marker, never mind that they will never optimally utilise their functions throughout its life time.
1. Tecno Camon C8:
Tecno Canon C8
Dual mini sim compatible, this phone’s touch display capacity includes an IPS capacitive LCD touchscreen with 16,000,000 colours. It has 3000AHbattery meaning you will get more battery life and will be less likely found moving round your neighbourhood with chargers drooping around your neck. It also has a 13 MP back camera and a 5MP front camera plus a 16 GB ROM and a 1GB RAM.

Oppo F9 Pro India Launch Event to Start Soon: Live Updates

2. HTC Desire 626Gplus:
This phone, just because it is possible to capture life’s beautiful moments in high resolution. It has a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash like the Tecno camon C9 but unlike it, it has a 5MP front camera with BSI sensors which means that you need not worry about the quality of your selfies in low-light vicinity. It has a 1.7GHz Octa Core Processor, 5 inch HD IPS touch display with a slot for dual nano sim cards. I love the way this phone makes you feel powerful yet stylish, however I do fear a little for its battery life because it has a 2000 MAh Battery.

3. Tecno Camon C9:
I love this phone! Dubbed the selfie master, Tecno Camon C9 does not just play on the name of popular camera brand, “Canon”; it actually flaunts a 13.0 MP LED flash back camera plus a 13.0 LED Flash front camera with an 83 degree wide viewing angle and an ISP picture noise detecting technology among others. How do I explain that this phone was built as the response to the human need for selfies besides its other amazing features?

4. Infinix Hot S X521:
If you have any reservations for the Infinix range of phones, it is because you have not experienced Infinix Hot S X521, particular emphasis on “experience”. This phone is the company’s latest ground breaking effort and a first for it on many levels. It is the first Infinix phone to come with a finger print sensor and you cannot miss the fact that unlike the Infinix phones before it, it is smaller and definitely sleek. Yes, you can say “sleek” and “Infinix” in the same sentence now.

Samsung expands Naija's Smartphone market with three new devices.

I find it very impressive that it has a 13.MP dual LED flash back camera and an 8.0 MP wide angle, soft LED flash front camera. This is definitely the way to go.

5. InnJoo Max3 Pro:
As with Infinix, I like that Innjoo has revamped its phones and this is not just in terms of their look and feel, important as they are. Injoo Max 3 Pro comes with a 3GB RAM and a 32 GB in built storage. Its 8MP front camera is impressive, particularly for its autofocus feature. For display feature this phone has a 6.0 inch IPS display and 720 X1280 pixels. What’s there not to love about it?
You see that you don’t have to break a bank or part with an arm and a leg to afford a good phone? So instead of stashing up your earnings for when you will be able to finally buy a phone you can actually go to sites like to purchase these phones either as brand new or used phones.

The sweet side of it is, you don’t have to pay for any first-minute access charge. All you have to do is… Migrate to Airtel value plan and start enjoying cheap calls rates on the Airtel network.
How to migrate to Airtel Value Plan
To activate, simply dial *243#.You will get a message welcoming you to the new Airtel value plan with 11k/sec call rates.
How many minutes will I get with N100 airtime on VALUE call plan?
Let’s do the calculations for (all network):
N0.11kobo X 60 seconds = N6.6k
So, with N100 recharge card, you will get > N100/N6.6 ≅ 15 minutes 15 seconds
